Following the innovative spirit of the Chicago Cow Parade, Naples hosted the 2002 Gators Galore project. 72 life-sized fiberglass (well, mostly fiberglass,) 64 artists and a tireless team of organizational volunteers raised over $800,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County and the Von Liebig Art Center. (The artists' contracts specifically called for whimsy - me thinks that was the easy part!)

Marco Island followed with the 2003 Dolphin Debut. This public sculpture display of 36 leaping dolphins was followed by an auction raising much-needed funds for the local YMCA and the Marco Island Art League. A big splash for a small town |

After the overwhelming success of these events, Naples returned with 2004 Gators Galore Encore! 25 more Gators, more whimsy and more dollars for the Boys and Girls Club and the Von Liebig Art Center. |

Many of the Gators & Dolphins can still be seen around Naples and Marco Island. Be sure to find the Best of Jeeves dolphin (since re-christened Artie) in front of Arturo's Restaurant on Bald Eagle Dr., Marco Island, and At Your Service Gator waits at the entrance to Zoe's on 5th Ave., Naples. |
